Uruguay celebrates “Noche de la Nostalgia”: What are the rules for these mass parties?

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – This Tuesday (24), the traditional “Noche de la Nostalgia” will take place. There are maximum capacity limits in the nightclubs, depending on whether the venues are open or closed and whether people are vaccinated or not.

Given the low number of Covid-19 cases in Uruguay, the Ministry of Public Health has updated protocols for parties and events on one of the most popular nights of the year.

The protocol will be in effect from this Monday, just before Nostalgia Night begins on Tuesday. Parties that include vaccinated people can have up to 200 people indoors and 300 people outdoors. Those that allow non-vaccinated people may gather up to 100 people indoors and 150 outdoors. And they can last until five in the morning.

Dancing is allowed every hour for forty minutes, but only at parties with immunized people. These instructions do not apply to illegal parties, which have been the cause of many infections in Uruguay. The use of masks is recommended by the Ministry of Public Health but is not mandatory.
