Rio de Janeiro Tops São Paulo In Daily Deaths from Covid-19

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – On Thursday, May 7th, the state of Rio de Janeiro recorded more deaths from the novel coronavirus than the state of São Paulo, the epicenter of the disease in Brazil, according to regional health bodies.

According to data from the Rio de Janeiro Health Secretariat, on Thursday 189 deaths caused by Covid-19 were reported, a higher figure than that recorded in São Paulo on the same day, with 161 deaths.

In total, since the start of the epidemic in the country some two months ago, Rio de Janeiro has recorded 1,394 deaths, while São Paulo has had 3,206 deaths. (Photo Internet Reproduction)

In Brazil, Covid-19 has now infected 135,106 people and claimed 9,146 lives, according to Brazil’s Ministry of Health.

On a global level, the Covid-19 pandemic has now claimed some 269,000 lives and infected more than 3.8 million people in 195 countries and territories, according to an assessment by the AFP news agency. Over 1.2 million patients have been considered cured.
