RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The city of Rio de Janeiro now offers a register to block telemarketing calls: Rio’s residents can register their landline or cell phone number to avoid being called by any type of company. This is something more comprehensive than ‘Não Me Perturbe’ (‘Do Not Disturb Me’), which includes only telecommunications and pay-TV providers.
Registration is available at web-sisbloqtele.apps.rio.gov.br if you live in Rio de Janeiro. The website uses HTTPS, unlike other government websites, and allows residents to register a maximum of three phone lines in their name. Full name, CPF (“individual taxpayer registry) and e-mail are required, as well as mobile or landline numbers.
The block will begin 30 days after the line is registered. If a company continues to call after this period, an occurrence must be reported to PROCON in Rio. The company will be penalized according to the sanctions provided for in the CDC (Consumer Defense Code), which may reach R$10 million.
This service includes telemarketing from all types of companies, including banks, financial services, and real estate. It is broader than ‘Não Me Perturbe’ (‘Do Not Disturb Me’), launched this year to avoid calls from operators Algar, Claro/NET, Nextel, Oi, Sercomtel, Sky, TIM, and Vivo.
