Fire in Residential Building in Rio’s North Zone Leaves Two Dead

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Two people died in the morning of Tuesday, September 17th, in a fire in a three-story building located at 287 Ubiratã Street, in the district of Higienópolis, in the North zone of Rio de Janeiro.

The deceased are an adult and a baby. However, they have not yet been identified.

According to witnesses, the fire started in an apartment on the second floor of the building. The flames became intense and residents of the area used a ladder to try to help people.

The fire was controlled by firemen from the fire station in neighboring district of Ramos.

The secretary said it was triggered at 8:40 AM. The firefighters are still on site and are waiting for the investigators from the Civil Police.
