Eike Batista Ordered Back to Jail Under New Lava Jato Operation

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Federal Police again arrested, on Thursday morning, August 8th, businessman Eike Batista. This is the second time that the owner of EBX goes to jail — the first since he was convicted in Lava Jato.

Named Segredo de Midas, the operation searches for evidence of manipulation in the capital market and money laundering.

Eike, who became the wealthiest man in Brazil, was arrested for the first time in 2017 for active corruption and money laundering.

Eike was at home, in the Botanical Garden neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro’s South Zone, where he had been under house arrest for nearly two and a half years.

Judge Marcelo Bretas, of the 7th Federal Court of Rio de Janeiro, issued two arrest warrants for this stage of Lava Jato.

One for Eike Furkhen Batista (already served) and one for Luiz Arthur Andrade Correia, known as Zartha, Eike’s accountant (he is abroad): there are a further four search and seizure warrants.

Eike, who became the wealthiest man in Brazil, was arrested for the first time in 2017 for active corruption and money laundering. He was detained for about three months at the Gericinó Penitentiary Complex in Bangu until he was placed under house arrest by a decision of Federal Supreme Court Justice Gilmar Mendes.
