Paraguay wants to be the logistics center of Mercosur

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MIC) recently reported Paraguay’s intention to become a Mercosur Logistics Center, for which it will access some US$450,000 in non-reimbursable cooperation from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

The qualification was informed within the framework of a meeting with the representatives of the multilateral organization, so that the country can make the presentation of the “Paraguay as Mercosur Logistics Center” program.

Said cooperation takes place within the framework of the program for the “Promotion of Regional Public Goods (BPR)” under the direction of the ID, whose objective is to create collaboration between countries of the region for the design, testing and infrastructure of transport policy and more efficient and inclusive logistics.

This was in addition to the approval for Paraguay, Panama and El Salvador, also qualified to receive said non-reimbursable technical cooperation of more than US$450,000, oriented to transport, logistics and its value chain policy in the region.

The plan contemplated the delineation of the objectives and execution mechanisms, which has three components such as the diagnosis and challenges of the policies, the regulatory architecture for the logistics system, and thirdly, the roadmap at the country level.

The multilateral organization stressed that the execution mechanism will have a technical committee with representatives of the IDB and the beneficiary countries such as Paraguay, El Salvador and Panama.

It should be mentioned that Paraguay was precisely the center of recommendations to establish investments not only in the infrastructure segment, but in everything that can take advantage of the country’s potential as well as competitive advantages, which were praised by the president of the IDB, Mauricio Claver-Carone, during the recent Invest in Paraguay forum, organized jointly by the multilateral and the MIC.

Paraguay would thus offer numerous investment opportunities in transport infrastructure, thanks to its location and public-private project initiatives. “Today, more than ever, is the best time to invest in Paraguay,” Claver-Carone had stressed.
