Brazil celebrates 2,652 high intellectuals on World Intelligence Day; São Paulo leads the way

On World High Intelligence Day, celebrated on August 10th, Brazil reports a total of 2,621 highly intelligent individuals, with an additional 31 identified abroad.

São Paulo stands out as the state with the most such individuals, followed by Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, and Paraná.

The data comes from Mensa Brazil, an organization dedicated to those with high intellectual abilities.

According to Mensa, signs of high intelligence include:

  • Swift problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional long-term memory.
  • Efficient working memory handling multiple information types.
  • Superior auditory and visual discernment.
  • Advanced skills for one’s age, such as early reading or innate music composition abilities.

The age distribution among these individuals in Brazil is as follows:

  • 5% are above 45 years.
  • 10% are between 37 and 45 years.
  • 10% are between 13 and 18 years.
  • 70% are between 19 and 36 years.

Mensa Brazil’s president, Rodrigo Lopes Sauaia, emphasized that Brazil is an “untapped intellectual powerhouse.”

He stated that around 2% of Brazilians might exhibit high intellectual capacities, but a comprehensive survey of such talents remains elusive.
