RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A lot of emotion characterized the four finals in Olympic swimming on Monday night (26). There was a Brazilian medal in the 200m freestyle.
In a thrilling race, Brazilian Fernando Scheffer took bronze behind two British swimmers in the men’s 200m freestyle: Britain’s Tom Dean and Duncan Scott.
This was the first Brazilian medal in swimming in this edition of the Olympic Games.
The men’s 100m backstroke final was also held. Evgeny Rylov, representing the Russian athletes, took first place. Kliment Kolesnikov finished second, while U.S. swimmer Ryan Murphy took third place.
In the women’s 100m backstroke, Australia’s Kaylee McKeown took gold, Canada’s Kylie Masse took silver and American Regan Smith completed the podium with the bronze medal.
In the women’s 100m breaststroke, young Lydia Jacoby, just 17 years old, from Seward, Alaska, surprisingly took 1st place. Tatjana Schoenmaker of South Africa touched in 2nd place, while pre-Games favorite Lily King of the United States came in third.
