Tokyo 2020: Brazil performs poorly in equestrian sport, loses places in classification

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Brazilian equestrian team has lost places in the overall standings of the general eventing competition (CEC) at the Tokyo Olympics. In the cross-country, one of the disciplines, the Brazilian riders, and their horses brought the Brazilian team from 11th to 12th place with 335.20 penalty points.

On Saturday, the national team had finished the dressage competition in 11th place. Still missing is the jumping competition to conclude the event competition, which is considered a triathlon of equestrian sport.

It brings together different disputes and skills of horses and athletes. Great Britain is in the lead with 78.30 points. The winner is the one who collects fewer points for penalties.

This Sunday, of the three Brazilian riders involved in the dispute, only two competed. Rafael Losano, the youngest in the team at 23, left the competition because his horse Fuiloda G was injured.

Marcelo Tosi, who rode Glenfly, exceeded the allowed time in his course and received a penalty of 8.80 for a total of 40.30 points. He occupies 24th place in the overall standings.

Carlos Parro, on the other hand, collected a higher penalty with his horse Goliath: 22.80. He added 58.90 points, placing 33rd overall. In cross-country, horses and athletes must overcome obstacles such as jumps or water puddles within a time limit. Therefore, they must provide a good, consistent speed along the trajectory.

The event will end on Monday with the individual and team jumping. In both modalities, Brazilian athletes competed from the list of favorites, but they now have little chance to fight for a medal.
