Globo’s price of bias: during the vacation season, the channel scores the worst results of the year

Brazil’s Rede Globo, one of the world’s largest and most powerful media groups, may have won the concession for the rights to broadcast radio and television in Brazil for another 15 years. Still, even so, the public’s admiration, trust, and audience continue in absolute decline.

For this, it is enough to see that in the middle of Christmas week, a period that moves commerce, tourism, travel, and, of course, television programming, Marinho’s broadcasting company verified a negative fact: it had a low audience and, sometimes, operated in the red.

The result was so bad that it was considered the worst of the year.

Jornal Nacional, the soap operas, and even Fantástico, during the Christmas weekend, on December 24th and 25th, had an alarming audience.

According to Kantar Ibope, which calculates the audience of Brazilian networks, on Saturday (Dec. 24), JN, hosted by William Bonner, had the lowest audience ever: 15.5 points in Greater São Paulo.

Globo’s 9 PM soap operas, which have always had a surprising number of viewers, disappointed.

“Travessia”, from the experienced author Glória Perez (one of the few that still remains in the network), operated with 14.7 points. This index is the worst yet for a prime time slot.

Do you think Rede Globo’s bitterness is over?

The next day, Sunday (Dec. 25), a world holiday, families at home, more time to watch TV, and what happens?

Globo’s audience average continued to weaken and remained at 10.4 points.

Not even “Domingão do Huck”, with its controversies around businessman Luciano Hang and the protesters in front of the headquarters, managed to raise the audience.

The attraction and “Fantástico”, the main programs of the Marinho Family, presented 14.2 and 15.3 points, respectively.

The lesson that the Brazilian people are giving to Globo is that it makes no difference to receive a concession and be able to operate in the country if you don’t have an audience.

The important thing is to change the proposal, stop cursing and criticizing the population, and provide truly impartial journalism.
