Chinese cloud technology seeks to strengthen academic development in Latin America

Chinese cloud technology seeks to strengthen academic development in Latin America by promoting education in the digital era.

The Chinese technology company Huawei, present in Argentina since 2001, organized the “Cloud LATAM Partner Summit 2023” for two consecutive days.

The event hosted a debate on education based on cloud technology as a tool for academic transformation, the company said Monday in a statement.

Taking part in the debate were

  • Alfonso Jiménez Lara, director of Strategy and Marketing of Huawei Cloud Latam;
  • Johel Batista, president and founder of the Ayudinga Foundation, an entity that favors educational inclusion;
  • Pablo Etcheverry, CEO of Entornos Educativos, a firm that provides digital education solutions;
  • Roberto Sánchez, CEO of Pronectis; and
  • Juan Bonora, vice president of Huawei Argentina.

Jiménez Lara valued the opportunities provided by Huawei Cloud technology, commenting that “Cloud provisioning allows companies to have a quick implementation at a very attractive cost and time and with reduced risks”.

For the Director of Strategy and Marketing of Huawei Cloud Latam, “Thanks to implementing new technologies and tools, it is possible to cover a great diversity of environments.”

“The new education processes were implemented from financial institutions to hospitals, making technology accessible to all who wish to learn”.

Johel Batista commented on his experience in education and digitalization through the Ayudinga Foundation and remarked that “the use of technology to solve the educational problem in Latin America has become a fundamental element in the transformation process we are going through, as it allows interconnection and knowledge sharing”.

The expert highlighted that “Huawei believes in youth. While many other companies closed the door on us, Huawei was the only one who believed in us and our efforts.

I am eternally grateful because, having had an initial approach in 2019 and has formalized this alliance, we achieved all the projects and educational initiatives we have today”.

For his part, Pablo Etcheverry, CEO of Entornos Educativos, recalled how the COVID-19 pandemic introduced significant changes in education. “When the interruption of classes was decreed (in March 2020), teachers had the will to ensure pedagogical continuity,” he said.

Etcheverry alluded to the “Moodle workplace” tool, hosted in the Huawei cloud, which offers solutions for working in the corporate environment and speeds up learning, “the only company that provides us with service from a data center located in Argentina”, the expert pointed out.

Roberto Sánchez, a specialist in data networks, cloud, and telecommunications, reviewed the challenges related to education and distance work in the new era, for which “the advantage offered by Huawei, which adapts to Latin America and the different countries and regions, which have their particularities, is key. We have a lot to do together in the cloud,” he said.

Juan Bonora, for his part, stated that security is a transversal axis for Huawei and that it applies to multiple industries, including the banking sector in Argentina.

“Here, the Central Bank established a regulation that indicates that banking information cannot leave the country.”

“In that sense, Huawei, through the infrastructure it has set up thanks to the presence of a local node, allows us to guarantee the permanence and security of the information, complying with local regulations and transforming Huawei Cloud into the best solution,” Bonora said.

The company explained to Xinhua that Huawei has a “commitment to the region to improve education and thus prepare the new generation”.

The spokespersons added that with a global cloud structure installed in 29 regions, the case of Latin America is one of the fastest-growing clouds, with three core areas in Chile, Brazil, and Mexico, along with two others at the country level in Argentina and Peru, with more than 1,100 partners in the region.
