Venezuelan opposition unites: strategy session against institutional hurdles on the way to 2024 presidential elections

Venezuelan opposition candidates are scheduled to convene on Monday in Caracas to strategize around recent institutional rulings impacting the upcoming October 22 internal elections.

Prominent concerns include disqualifying politicians from public office and potential legal suspension of the elections.

Key figures, including former deputies Tamara Adrián, María Corina Machado, and ex-governor Henrique Capriles, are attending the closed-door meeting.

The main focus is devising a unified strategy to address potential political roadblocks.

Former governor César Pérez Vivas and ex-Governor Andrés Velásquez have also confirmed their participation, with Velásquez joining via remote means.

Their joint goal is to develop a strategy for overcoming political challenges, especially those posed by current leadership.

The candidates’ meeting follows recent developments, including a Supreme Court review of a potential suspension of the election process.

The internal elections aim to identify a candidate to contest the 2024 presidential race.

The meeting will also explore potential succession strategies should a winning candidate be disqualified from registering for the 2024 elections.
