The Peruvian National Police (PNP) has broken up 45 criminal gangs in the capital city of Lima in the past three days, the Ministry of the Interior (Mininter) announced.
Metropolitan Lima is the name given to the city of Lima; the constitutional province of Callao borders it, and both form a single urban entity understood as the country’s capital.
Currently, Lima and Callao are under a state of emergency due to an increase in general crime.
The ministry said that of the 513 criminals arrested, 85 were wanted persons, and 269 were foreigners.
Also seized were 58 firearms, three grenades, three shotguns, 2,900 suspected stolen cell phones, and 137 stolen vehicles.
