Mexican court stops the extradition of Ovidio Guzmán, son of “El Chapo”

The Justice of Mexico has granted Ovidio Guzmán López, drug trafficker son of the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, Joaquín ‘El Chapo‘ Guzmán, a new provisional suspension with which his extradition to the United States is temporarily stopped.

The head of a specialized section of the Amparo and Federal Trials area has granted the precautionary measure for Ovidio Guzmán, leader of a faction of the Sinaloa Cartel known as Los Chapitos, one of the aliases by which the son of ‘El Chapo’ is known.

Thus, the Mexican authorities have planned that Ovidio Guzmán continue to be held in the Altiplano maximum security prison and at the disposal of the judge responsible for the case, thus avoiding his extradition to the United States, where he is being claimed for trafficking fentanyl.

A Mexican court already suspended a week ago, also provisionally, the extradition of Ovidio Guzmán to the United States after being arrested a few days earlier in an operation that resulted in nearly thirty deaths.

This decision by the Mexican Justice comes just one day after the famous drug trafficker ‘El Chapo’ asked the authorities to be transferred from the United States to a prison in Mexican territory.

From Mexico City they have promised to “analyze” said request.
