Ecuador’s Cotopaxi volcano emits 2,000 meters-high cloud of gas and ash

The Cotopaxi volcano in the Ecuadorian province of the same name in the north of the country emits a column of gas and ash this Tuesday.

“Observation: Gas emission and low ash load. Cloud height = 2,000 msnc,” reported the Institutional Geophysical (IG).

With 5,897 meters above sea level, this crater is one of the most dangerous and watched in the country and the world to avoid a catastrophe due to its impact area.

Since last October, a yellow alert has been in effect, which establishes the updating of risk plans and the training of neighboring populations in case of an eruption, as well as strengthening the monitoring of this volcano.

The Secretariat of Risks recommends the population follow the information through official channels.

Sangay volcano, in the province of Morona Santiago (central-south), and El Reventador, in the province of Napo (north), are currently active in Ecuadorian territory.
