Che Guevara’s son dies during a stay in Caracas

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel mourned the death of Camilo Guevara, one of the sons of Cuban-Argentine guerrilla Ernesto “Ché” Guevara (1928-1967), while in Venezuela.

According to diplomatic sources quoted by the press, the 60-year-old Guevara died of pulmonary thrombosis on Aug. 29, which led to a heart attack in Caracas.

Until his death, he directed the project of the Che Guevara Study Center in Havana, an institution dedicated to promoting knowledge and research on the thought, life, and work of the famous guerrilla fighter who died in combat in Bolivia in October 1967.

His father, the guerrilla commander Che Guevara, joined a group of Cuban revolutionaries at a very young age in the late 1950s and was among the ranks of the rebel army that succeeded in overthrowing the tyranny of General Fulgencio Batista (1952-1958).

After holding significant leadership positions in the new revolutionary government of Cuba, Che Guevara participated in a guerrilla movement in Africa and later in the jungles of Bolivia, where he lost his life in battle and became a myth for leftist movements around the world.
