Colombia’s Foreign Minister resigns in the midst of social crisis the country is experiencing

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Colombia’s Foreign Minister, Claudia Blum, submitted to President Iván Duque her resignation letter at a time when the country is immersed in one of the biggest social and political crises in recent years due to more than two weeks of protests and mobilizations.

“I hereby respectfully submit to you my irrevocable resignation as Minister of Foreign Affairs, effective immediately,” reads the letter, dated May 11, but made public today.

Since April 28, Colombia has been immersed in important and massive citizen protests which began as a rejection of the now-defunct tax reform which the Government wanted to approve, but which now include other demands such as the resignation of the President, the reform of the police force or the overturning of an attempt to reform the Colombian Constitution.
