Cristina Kirchner blames the IMF agreement for inflation in Argentina

Argentine Vice President Cristina Kirchner said it is “necessary to review the agreement” that the country signed with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which she holds responsible for the high inflation that affects her people.

The vice president made the statement during a conference at a La Plata theater in the capital city of Buenos Aires province on Thursday, 27.

“The big problem that Argentine society is currently facing is inflation.”

“I keep saying that this agreement that has been signed is inflationary because it is a canned policy that is applied with a monothematic recipe to all countries,” Kirchner said, defending the revision of the agreement.

The country has a deal with the IMF to refinance a US$$44 billion credit granted in 2018 during Mauricio Macri’s government.

“In addition to discussing the surcharges, we want the conditionalities to be reviewed, and in the future, we will have to discuss that the amounts (to be paid) are linked to the trade surplus,” she said.

The vice president also classified as a “burden” the return of the IMF to Argentina.

“It hurts when the opposition talks about the last 20 years because I believe that there is no good Argentine who can ignore the burden that the return of the IMF to the Argentine Republic means to society,” she concluded.

The former president did not mention a possible candidacy for the command of the Argentine Executive.
