Argentina’s GDP grew 6.9% in second quarter of 2022

Argentina’s gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 6.9 percent year on year in the second quarter.

It reached 6.5 percent growth in the first half of the year, according to data released Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC).

In the April-June period, the South American country recorded growth in 16 of the 17 economic sectors studied by INDEC, with only agriculture, livestock, hunting, and forestry suffering a 5.2 percent decline.

Hotels and restaurants registered a 53.9 percent increase, followed by fishing at 24.1 percent, mining, and quarrying at 15.5 percent, and transport and communications at 11.5 percent.

Manufacturing grew 7.7 percent, trade 9.7 percent, and construction 9.9 percent, according to INDEC.

In the second quarter, imports of goods and services, measured at FOB values, increased 23.1 percent, while exports rose 9.3 percent.

According to the government agency, private consumption grew by 10.7 percent, public consumption by 5.3 percent, and gross fixed capital formation (capital formation) by 18.8 percent.

The Argentine government has forecast a GDP growth of 4 percent in 2022.

According to private analysts consulted by the Central Bank of Argentina (BCRA), the domestic economy could finish with a 3.6 percent increase.
