RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The novel coronavirus (Covid-19) has now infected 12,740,971 and killed over half a million people worldwide since the outbreak began in January, according to a report by John Hopkins University (USA), which updates the data in real time.

Brazil, one of the most affected countries by the pandemic, has passed the 72,000-death mark and the epidemic continues to spread at a steady rate. This Saturday it counted almost 40,000 new cases.

On Sunday, when notification is lower because of weekend breaks in state surveillance, there were further 24,831 cases.

France plans to systematically run virological tests to detect Covid-19 at its airports for travelers from risk countries. Meanwhile, in Spain, Galicia, and the Basque country are holding their first regional elections following the declared coronavirus pandemic, which is still active with more than one hundred outbreaks across the country.
