Paraguay surpasses 300,000 coronavirus infections

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Paraguay surpassed on Tuesday, May 11, the mark of 300,000 accumulated coronavirus infections since March 2020, when the first case was detected in the country, according to the Ministry of Health in its daily report.

With 2,377 cases registered in the last 24 hours, the number of positive cases reached 302,061. The number of deaths reached 7,284 people, with 75 deaths in the last day.

The country’s hospitals have 3,382 patients admitted due to covid-19, with 581 of them in intensive care. The Ministry of Health also reported 1,915 recoveries, bringing the number of people who have overcome the disease since March 2020 to 250,502.

Paraguay is still awaiting new vaccine arrivals, with several commitments from different countries that could be fulfilled by the end of this week, as noted Tuesday by Foreign Minister Euclides Acevedo upon receiving his first dose against the coronavirus.

In total, Paraguay has vaccinated 167,905 people since February, when the immunization campaign began, according to data from the health ministry. In addition, two tons of medical material and supplies donated by Spain are expected to arrive in the next few days to reinforce the health system and decompress the intensive care units.
