Mayor of Rio de Janeiro announces new Covid-19 vaccination schedule

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The mayor of the city of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes (DEM), announced Thursday a new vaccination schedule against Covid-19. Through his profile on the social network Twitter, the politician published a schedule by age groups with specific days, for the next two weeks, between July 5 and July 17.

In the new calendar, adults over 42 are still scheduled to begin vaccination on July 5; however, because other age groups are scheduled to be vaccinated the following week, adults over 37 will not be vaccinated until August.

Earlier, the mayor reported through his social network that, according to City Hall calculations, almost 20% of the population to be vaccinated in Rio de Janeiro has already received the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. “Three million Cariocas vaccinated with the first dose. Almost 60% of the target population. Almost 20% of the target population already with the second dose. Let’s step on the gas!!!” the mayor said in the posting.

On the Rio Covid-19 panel page, made available on the Internet by Rio City Hall, the city records 3,001,197 people vaccinated against the disease with the first dose of the vaccine. The exact number of people vaccinated with the second dose in the city is 979,461, leading to a total of 4,026,822 doses administered. The data will be updated until 7:45 p.m. on June 30.

In the state of Rio de Janeiro, 4,772,249 vaccinated people have been counted as of 9 AM Thursday. The data are available in the “Vacinômetro” on the Fluminense government Internet portal.
