Covid-19: Brazil Records 27,750 New Cases and 729 Deaths in 24 Hours (October 8th)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Health authorities recorded 27,750 new Covid-19 cases and 729 deaths in the past 24 hours.

The cumulative deaths since the start of the novel coronavirus pandemic have reached 148,957. By Wednesday, the total number of deaths reached 148,228. Another 2,346 are under investigation.

The information was provided by the Ministry of Health in its daily balance on Thursday evening, October 8th. The update is based on data submitted by the Health Secretariats.

The total number of Covid-19 cases since the start of the pandemic to date amount to 5,028,444. There are still 464,923 cases under follow-up. According to the Ministry of Health, another 4,414,564 people have recovered from the disease.

With 215 deaths and 5,649 cases recorded in the past 24 hours, the state of São Paulo now totals 36,884 deaths and 1,022,404 confirmed cumulative cases of the novel coronavirus. From the total diagnosed cases, 898,416 people have recovered.

The number of hospitalized patients throughout the state, for suspected or confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus, is of 8,753 people. From this total, 3,726 people are hospitalized in a critical condition. The intensive care unit (ICU) bed occupancy rate stands at 43.4 percent in the state and 42.2 percent in Greater São Paulo.

The states with the highest number of deaths are São Paulo (36,884), Rio de Janeiro (19,110), Ceará (9,111), Pernambuco (8,387), and Minas Gerais (7,897).

The states with fewest cases are Roraima (666), Acre (669), Amapá (724), Tocantins (996), and Mato Grosso do Sul (1,395).
