Covid-19: Brazil Counts Over 98 Thousand Deaths and 2.9 Million Cases (August 6th)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Ministry of Health’s daily report released yesterday, August 6th, totaled 98,493 deaths since the start of the pandemic. Since Wednesday, 1,237 deaths have been recorded by local Health Secretariats. On Wednesday, August 5th, the system recorded 97,256 fatalities. There are currently 3,544 deaths under investigation.

The cumulative number of cases of the disease reached 2,912,212. In the past 24 hours, the body’s panel was notified of 53,139 new cases by local health authorities. By Wednesday, the portfolio had counted 2,859,073 infections since the start of the pandemic.

According to the Ministry of Health, there are 766,059 patients in follow-up, and 2,047,660 people have recovered from the disease.

Covid-19 in the states

The states with the highest number of Covid-19 deaths are São Paulo (24,448), Rio de Janeiro (13,941), Ceará (7,893), Pernambuco (6,828), and Pará (5,835). The states with the fewest deaths from the pandemic are Tocantins (428), Mato Grosso do Sul (458), Roraima (538), Acre (552), and Amapá (594).

In terms of cases, São Paulo is the leader (598,670), followed by Bahia (183,690), Ceará (183,301), Rio de Janeiro (174,064), and Pará (162,822). Bahia overtook Ceará and is now second in the ranking.

The states with the fewest infections to date are Acre (21,263), Mato Grosso do Sul (29,101), Tocantins (29,539), Roraima (34,929), and Amapá (37,735).

Covid-19 in the world

According to the Johns Hopkins University map, the United States leads the novel coronavirus ranking with 4,870,367 accumulated cases and 159,864 deaths from Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic. Brazil ranks second. In third place in the list of countries with the highest number of cases is India with 1,964,536 cases. Mexico ranks third in the number of deaths from the novel coronavirus, at 49,698.
