Brazil has 860 Covid-19 deaths in 24 hours, says Ministry of Health (May 23)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil has recorded 860 deaths from Covid-19 in 24 hours, totaling 449,068 deaths due to the new coronavirus, says the Ministry of Health. According to the Ministry’s data, the number of confirmed cases of the disease since the pandemic’s beginning exceeds 16 million (16,083,258). From yesterday to today, 35,819 positive Covid-19 diagnoses were registered in Brazil.

The data are in the daily update of the Ministry of Health, released this Sunday, May 23. The balance is prepared with information from the state health departments about the cases of Covid-19 and deaths due to the disease.

The numbers are generally lower on Sundays and Mondays because of the smaller number of employees in the health teams to feed the data. On Tuesdays, the results tend to be higher because of the accumulated data sent.

States

The state with the most covid deaths is São Paulo (107,614). Next come Rio de Janeiro (49,515); Minas Gerais (39,086); Rio Grande do Sul (27,419), and Paraná (25,506).
