Brazil has 1,129 new deaths and more than 487,000 fatalities from Covid-19 (June 13)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil recorded 1,129 new Covid deaths Sunday, bringing the total number of fatal disease victims in the country to 487,401, the Health Ministry said.

There were 37,948 new coronavirus cases on the reporting day, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 17,412,766.

Brazil has the second-highest number of Covid 19 deaths globally, behind only the U.S., and the third-highest number of confirmed cases, behind the U.S. and India.

The Brazilian state most affected by Covid-19 in absolute numbers, São Paulo, reached 3,458,849 cases and 118,121 deaths on Sunday.

Minas Gerais has the second-highest number of recorded infections, with 1,683,100 cases, but Rio de Janeiro is the state with the most deaths, with 52,998 cases.

The federal government also reports 15,794,548 people recovered from Covid-19 and 1,130,817 patients in follow-up.
