Unemployment Leads to 12.6 Percent Increase in Microentrepreneurs in Q1

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - With high unemployment in Brazil - considering data before the impact of the novel coronavirus crisis - the number of microentrepreneurs continued to grow in the first quarter of 2020.

The number of MEIs (Individual Microentrepreneurs) rose 12.6 percent over the same period last year, according to data from Boa Vista, to be released on Monday, May 4th.

MEIs accounted for 81.7 percent of company openings in the first quarter. The survey shows that the Services sector represented 62.5 percent of all openings in the period.
