Second Recent Slaughter in Ceará Interior Town Leaves Seven Dead

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A slaughter in the city of Ibaretama, interior of Ceará State, left seven dead in the early hours of Thursday, November 26th. A child is among the dead.

According to information from the Ibaretama police station, men stormed into a house shooting at dawn. This is the second slaughter in the state in just over a month; in October, five men were killed in Quiterianópolis.

A source at the police station who chose to remain anonymous stated that the occurrence was reported around 3:30 AM. When the police reached the house, there were seven bodies, including that of an eight-year-old child. The owner of the house managed to escape with a gunshot wound to the leg.

According to the source, the victims were involved with criminal factions. It is suspected that rival faction members committed the murders. She said the bodies have already been referred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine (IML).

In a statement, the Secretariat of Public Safety and Social Defense (SSPDS) reported that teams from the Homicide and Protection of the Person Department (DHPP), the Southern Interior Judiciary Police Department (DPI-Sul), and the Intelligence Coordination Office are working on the case together with the Quixadá Regional Police Station.

According to the SSPDS, investigations are underway to identify the perpetrator of the crime. Teams from the Specialized Battalion of Interior Policing (BEPI/COTAR) and the General Ostensive Policing (POG) of the Ceará State Police (PMCE) are also working on the case.
