RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Remarkable critic of the conservative agenda of the Brazilian political scene, YouTuber Felipe Neto decided to reinforce his own personal security and that of his family.
In the midst of a flood of criticism motivated by his political position, Neto led a vigorous campaign for diversity, in response to the censorship imposed by Crivella, by distributing over 10,000 books on LGBT issues at the last Biennale, in Rio de Janeiro.
The case’s repercussions, however, have exposed him and his family to haters’ attacks on social media. He commented on the initiative. “I live today with an extensive team of security personnel, for both myself and my family. I’m well aware I’ve struck a nerve and that’s why I am currently living with every possible precaution”.
The polarization that fosters the clash of ideologies in Brazil extends beyond the Internet. In the Federal District, a private school sparked controversy after advising parents to forbid their children from watching Felipe Neto’s videos.
According to the note, despite being considered an “internet phenomenon”, the YouTuber addresses controversial topics, which may negatively influence children and adolescents.
