Far-left PSOL party will ask Brazil’s Supreme Court to place Bolsonaro in preventive detention

On Monday (Jan. 2), the PSOL bench in the Chamber of Deputies will file a petition in the Supreme Court (STF) asking for the remand of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL, right).

The information is from the newspaper Folha de S. Paulo.

In the action, the far-left parliamentarians also request the breaking of telephone and telematic secrecy, the search and seizure of evidence and documents, and the seizure of Bolsonaro’s passport.

The PSOL petition makes reference to the inquiry of alleged “antidemocratic acts” already open in the STF and which investigates the former president.

“Bolsonaro committed serial crimes during his government. Calling him a genocide is no exaggeration. Unfortunately, the institutions did not act in time, and we had to wait until the elections,” said Juliano Medeiros, president of the PSOL, who also signs the document.

“We will not accept any day of impunity. Amnesty, no way. We want Bolsonaro in jail,” he adds.
