Dollar closes up 1.37% against Brazilian real at R$ 5.0447

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The dollar on Thursday, July 1, had the highest rise in nearly six weeks and closed above 5 reais for the first time in ten days, trailing the strengthening of the currency abroad, before employment data in the U.S., and some local discomfort on the political side.

The spot dollar rose 1.37% to R$5.0447 on sale, the strongest appreciation since May 21 (+1.51%).

The rate ranged from R$4.9473 (-0.58%) to R$5.0523 (+1.53%). The closing price is the highest since June 18 (R$5.0713).

It is the first time since June 21 (R$5.0224) that the dollar ends the spot market session above the R$5 line.
