Son Carlos’ Statement on Democracy “is His Opinion,” Says Father Jair Bolsonaro

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – President Jair Bolsonaro said on Monday, September 16th, that Rio city councilman Carlos Bolsonaro (PSL), his son, was right to state in a recent posting on Twitter that, “by democratic means, the transformation that Brazil wants will not happen at the pace we want.”

“It’s his opinion and he’s right,” said the president Bolsonaro in an interview with RecordTV.

“If it had been in Cuba or North Korea, wouldn’t this reform be already approved without Parliament?” he asked.

According to Bolsonaro, the reform mentioned by his son takes time because he has to “discuss, and that is natural.”

“He even spoke the obvious,” he said. “For God’s sake, is there an explanation from me that democracy can’t be made different?”

The president said that many pressure him as if he had the power to influence the Brazilian Parliament. “I don’t have this power and I don’t want to have this power in the name of democracy,” he said.

On the reform of the Social Security system, which is in progress in the Senate, Bolsonaro declared that “God willing, this month everything will be resolved”.
