Brazil’s Ibovespa closes Monday up almost 1%

The main index of the São Paulo Stock Exchange (B3), Ibovespa, closed the trading session of Monday, Feb. 13, up by approximately 1%, at 108 thousand points.

The appreciation occurred mainly due to the financial sector, especially BTG Pactual. According to internal reports, the bank reported a net income of almost R$1.8 billion (US$348 million) in the last quarter of 2022.

The market awaits the meeting of the National Monetary Council, which should take place on Thursday, Feb. 16. The meeting may bring changes in inflation targets, for example.

Another factor to consider is the interview of the Central Bank (BC) president, Roberto Campos Neto, to the program Roda Viva this Monday on TV Cultura.

Since he came to power, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has criticized the policies adopted by the Central Bank.

Abroad, investors await with apprehension the announcement of the North American inflation rate, scheduled for Tuesday the 14th.

The result may give a direction on the financial situation of the Federal Reserve and the Central Bank of the United States.

In contrast, the US currency closed the Monday session down 0.87%, quoted at R$ 5.17.
