Brazil Counts 38,600 Coronavirus Cases and 2,400 Recorded Deaths (April 19th)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Ministry of Health released new figures on the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic in the country yesterday. According to a daily assessment made by the portfolio, Brazil counts 38,654 confirmed cases of the disease and 2,462 deaths have been recorded.

The mortality rate still stands at 6.4 percent. The Ministry recorded 2,055 new cases and 110 deaths over the past 24 hours.

The number of recovered patients has not been updated, and remains at 14,026, which represents 38 percent of infections. The latest figures on cured individuals date back to April 18th, when the number of confirmed cases stood at 36,599.

The Southeast Region records 21,285 (55.1 percent) confirmed cases of the disease. Then come the Northeast, with 9,300 (24.1 percent); North, with 3,691 (9.5 percent); South, with 2,816 (7.3 percent), and Midwest, with 1,562 (4 percent).

On March 11th, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a coronavirus pandemic in all countries.  The term is used when an epidemic – a major outbreak affecting a region – spreads across different continents with sustained person-to-person transmission.
