Brazil Deploys 16 Armored Vehicles to Venezuelan Border

On December 5, 2023, the Brazilian Army announced a significant deployment of 16 armored vehicles to the Venezuelan border.

This action aims to strengthen the cities of Pacaraima and Boa Vista in Roraima. This move comes after Venezuela’s referendum to annex part of Guyana’s territory.

In a statement, the Army highlighted the need for constant vigilance and readiness. They are committed to protecting Brazil’s borders.

The deployment, initially planned under the Army’s Strategic Planning, was expedited due to recent events.

On November 30, the Defense Ministry had already increased the military presence in the border region.

This proactive measure reflects Brazil’s responsiveness to regional developments.

Poder360, a local news source, reported that an additional 60 soldiers were sent to Pacaraima.

This increase brings the total military presence in the area to 130.

The armored vehicles are expected to arrive in Boa Vista within 20 days. They will form a new military unit, boosting the region’s defense.

This strategic move underscores Brazil’s commitment to maintaining border security. The Army’s Communication Center clarified the deployment’s purpose.

It focuses on ensuring the inviolability of Brazil’s borders through enhanced surveillance and protection.

The transformation of the existing Mechanized Cavalry Squadron into a Mechanized Cavalry Regiment is a key strategic measure.

More military personnel and advanced equipment will now be stationed in Roraima.

The 16 Multitask Armored Vehicles 4×4 – Guaicurus, are being relocated from the South and Central-West to Roraima. They will form the core of the new Military Unit.
