Priorities

Editorial

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – My priorities need to be reset, and sorry for sharing too much personal information but my parents came to visit Friday, and I have been so busy putting this week’s issue out I have not seen them since Sunday night. I thought I had planned a manageable week of editing and publishing but a few curve-balls turned it into a rough one.

Stone Korshak, Editor and Publisher of The Rio Times.

The biggest surprise was a transition to a new Nightlife Guide editor did not happen as smoothly as hoped. It is my fault of course and we have it organized now, but we ended up with no one yesterday so the NLG (as we refer to it internally) was put together by yours-truly. I ran out of time to get the featured blocos in for the week, but we’ll make sure next week is tight.

We also had a bigger influx of Classified Ads, with Carnival here it should not have been a surprise but it still diverted some time. It has always been a bit of a mystery why the community here does not use our Classifieds more (they are very inexpensive), maybe that is set to change.

Then we also have this police strike which has been difficult to cover because it is all happening so fast and to put a weekly article out about it proved challenging. We will continue to cover it on a Daily Update basis, and let us all keep our fingers crossed that a strike is averted here in Rio, especially before Carnival. All our thoughts and best wishes are for those in Salvador, hoping they stay safe.

Now, I’m going to take my parents to this museum in the Complex da Maré, we have some photo prints to donate, my father’s plan after visiting there last year. They have a database of old photos but none were for sale, so my dad managed to get the digital files, make some prints, and will donate them back so the museum can put some on the wall and sell for a bit of additional income.

After that I’ll be taking the folks to some blocos.
