As Good as Could Be

Editorial

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Rock in Rio is here, since first announced in August 2010, the city has been on an exciting build-up to seven massive music-festival-days, spread across two weekends. We have tracked the progress from breaking ground on the Parque Olimpico Cidade do Rock in December, to the four-day sell-off of 600,000 tickets in May, and the new day added in July. And now, after over a year of planning, Rock in Rio is here, as good as it could be.

Stone Korshak, Editor and Publisher of The Rio Times.

I won’t recount all the details of the event build up because we’re reported on it already, but the thing I would add is the true feeling of excitement felt by the city and music lovers from around Brazil. I even have a friend coming down from Salvador to catch a show, not that Rio needs much incentive for a visit.

Personally the Guns N’ Roses show would be my first choice, although I have been holding a ticket for the Red Hot Chili Peppers on Friday. Somehow I did not end up with as many tickets as I expected, perhaps because life has thrown some curve balls in the last month, or perhaps because I’m not really a big-concert-kind-of-guy.

Once someone gets there – no small task – the City or Rock grounds look amazing, with four different zones, I imagine it will feel like a whole different world. This iteration of Rock in Rio even has a whole new area called Rock Street, where some of our own community of musicians will get to perform.

The entire affair, even for a non-big-concert-kind-of-guy, looks like as good as it could be. Have fun, be safe, and send us photos.
