Bullrich Backs Milei in Argentina’s Runoff Election

Patricia Bullrich, once a contender for Argentina’s presidency, has formally endorsed Javier Milei for the upcoming runoff.

She represented the Juntos por el Cambio party and secured third place in the first round. Receiving 23.83% of votes, she left the race.

Bullrich made her stance clear. She said, “I may differ with Milei on some issues, but the majority of Argentinians want change.”

She believes it’s crucial to pick a side, stating, “Staying neutral isn’t an option for us.”

Turning to Milei, he is a candidate from the La Libertad Avanza party. He gained 29.99% of votes in the first phase, coming in second.

With Bullrich’s support, Milei now has a stronger chance in the runoff election.

Sergio Massa won the first round with 36.68% of votes. He is the current Minister of Economy and represents the government.

Massa and Milei will compete head-to-head to determine who becomes Argentina’s next leader. The final election takes place on November 19.

The runoff has now become even more interesting. Both Milei and Massa have their unique strengths and weaknesses.

Massa has government experience, while Milei represents change. Voters will make their choice, impacting Argentina’s future direction.

This endorsement adds a new layer to an already intense electoral contest.

Bullrich’s decision to support Milei could be a game-changer, tipping the scales in an election marked by close competition.

Background

Javier Milei, a presidential candidate in Argentina, recently expressed openness to including leftist politicians in his cabinet.

He mentioned this in an interview on Monday. His statement comes as he prepares for a runoff election.

His opponent in this election is Sergio Massa, Argentina’s current Minister of Economy.

Milei believes that some sectors could benefit from leftist expertise. He cited an example. Milei plans to create a new Ministry of Human Resources.

This ministry would merge different areas like health and education. He thinks leftists might manage such a ministry effectively.

In an interview with El Observador radio, Milei elaborated on his point of view. He said if the most capable person can solve a problem, their political beliefs don’t matter to him.

“I aim to resolve issues in an effective, harmless way,” he stated.
