Four siblings survive 40-day ordeal in the jungle following plane crash in Colombia

In a remarkable story of survival, four children were discovered alive in Colombia after enduring 40 days in the Amazon rainforest following a plane crash.

The crash took place during their journey from Caquetá to San José del Guaviare in southern Colombia.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced this astonishing news on Friday (June 9).

The four siblings, aged 13, 9, 4, and 1, were found by rescue teams near the crash site between Caquetá and Guaviare.

The crash had occurred in the early hours of May 1 following reports of engine failure on their Cessna 206 aircraft.

The pilot, who was also the children’s mother, Magdalena Mucutuy, and another passenger tragically lost their lives in the crash.

Colombian President Petro expressed his joy on Twitter: “A joy for the whole country! The 4 children lost 40 days ago in the Colombian jungle have turned up alive.”

In a conversation with reporters, Petro shared that the survivors were found together and are currently in a weakened state.

He further noted that the children had to fend for themselves in the jungle and undergo medical evaluations.

The Colombian Army and Air Force aircraft participated in the successful rescue operation.
