Brazil received 2.7 million foreign tourists in the first four months of 2023, a figure that is equivalent to 75 percent of the total number of foreign visitors who visited the country in 2022.
This is according to an official study by the state agency Ente Brasileiro de Turismo (Embratur) released today by the GloboNews news network.
According to Embratur data, the increase generated between January and April still does not match the levels of 2019, before the pandemic of the new coronavirus.
Of the 2.7 million foreign tourists, 1.18 million were from Argentina, Brazil’s main trading partner in the Latin American region.
The increase in landings of Argentines in Brazilian cities advanced by 166 percent with respect to the first four months of 2022.
In second place were tourists from the United States, with 224,882 visitors, and in third place, those from Paraguay, with 194,981 people.
Chile, Uruguay, Portugal, Germany, France, United Kingdom, and Italy complete the list of the top ten, according to the list disclosed by GloboNews.
According to Central Bank data, the revenue generated by foreign visitors in this four-month period was the highest in the last four years: R$10.8 billion (about US$2.155 billion).
The president of Embratur, Marcelo Freixo, assured that the Brazilian government’s goal is to return by 2023 to the historical average of six million annual visitors who visited Brazil before the pandemic.
