Shootout leaves at least 10 dead in northern Mexico

A shootout between members of the Fuerza Civil and alleged criminals on a federal highway in the northern Mexican state of Nuevo León left a provisional toll of ten dead and four wounded.

In his official Twitter account, Nuevo León Public Security Secretary Gerardo Palacios Pámanes indicated that the events occurred when Civil Force personnel were shot at by a group of individuals traveling in three armored vans.

At the site, “a considerable amount of weapons was found, including grenades, as well as ammunition and tactical equipment that was seized,” according to the source.

As a result, the uniformed officers requested support from different authorities, and a security operation was deployed with the participation of the State Police.

Since March 2010, criminal organizations such as the Northeast Cartel, the Zetas, and the Gulf Cartel have been fighting for control of Mexico’s northeastern states, which has led to several armed clashes in the region.
