Total occupancy of hotels in Paraguay

In the first quarter of the current year, the total occupancy rate of hotels in Paraguay was 68.3%.

This was announced by the National Secretariat of Tourism (Senatur) through the Tourism Observatory.

The report compiles information from more than 200 lodging establishments in the landlocked South American country regarding occupancy, the main reason for stay, country of origin of guests, and other interest data.

Accordingly, the overall occupancy rate in the first quarter of the year was 68.3%, the occupancy rate of lodging establishments (hotels, apart-hotels, resorts, etc.) was 64.4%, and that of non-hotel establishments (which include inns and rural tourism establishments, among others) was 75.2%.

The survey found a continued increase in occupancy over the last seven quarters, starting in the third quarter of 2021, with the largest increase in the first quarter of 2023.

Overall occupancy in the first quarter of 2023 was 36.1 percentage points higher than in 2022, an excellent improvement.

Comparing the measurements of total occupancy in the first quarter of 2023 to the fourth quarter of last year, there was a 2.6 percentage point increase in occupancy.

Regarding the country of residence of guests, lodging establishments reported that most guests came from Paraguay (35.5%), Argentina (24.3%), Brazil (24.0%), Germany (7.5%), Spain (1.6%) and other countries (7.2%).

It should be noted that the main reasons for the guests’ stay in this period were leisure, recreation, vacation, and/or tourism in general (64.5%) and professional, business, work, and job-related reasons (34.0%).
