Paraguay confirms first cases of avian influenza in the Chaco region

The National Animal Health and Quality Service (SENACSA) of Paraguay informed on Saturday in a press release that the central laboratory of the institution confirmed the presence of highly pathogenic avian influenza in backyard poultry.

The cases were detected in the district of Mariscal Estigarribia and in Colonia Neuland, the department of Boquerón, in the western region of the country or Chaco.

In view of this situation, specific sanitary measures have been taken immediately, the National Animal Health Emergency System (SINAESA) has been activated, and epidemiological surveillance in the area.

Senacsa is also in the process of communicating with international animal health organizations and others.

The Director of Epidemiology of this institution, Carlos Ramírez, explained that the confirmed cases correspond to home-produced chickens consumed in the same production place and not distributed to third parties.
