Angola raises US$21.7 million by auctioning 1,206.91 carats of diamonds

The state-run Angolan National Diamond Trading Company (Sodiam) has raised US$21.7 million by auctioning 1,206.91 carats of special stones.

A Sodiam note, to which the Lusa agency had access, said that special rough diamond stones from the Catoca, Chitotolo, Kaipexa, Lulo, Luminas, Lunhinga, Uari, and Moquita Cooperatives were sold at auction this Friday.

Sodiam stressed that the amount raised occurred in an environment where high stocks of cut diamonds and a liquidity shortage characterize the current market situation.
