The former governor of Rio de Janeiro, Sérgio Cabral, after being sentenced to 420 years in prison and released on December 19, posted a video celebrating 20,000 followers on his Instagram this Saturday (6).
The conviction had been imposed by former judge Sergio Moro in 2016 in the lava-jato investigation.
The new Lava Jato judge, Eduardo Fernando Appio, extinguished it on Tuesday (2).
The reason for the annulment, according to Appio, is that Moro showed “partiality” during the trial of the former governor.
Cabral was arrested in 2016 after Operation Calicute.
The former governor was accused of running a solid bribery scheme in the Rio government.
Cabral, sentenced to more than 420 years in prison, was the last politician convicted by Lava Jato, who remained in jail.
Despite the sentence, the former governor was only behind bars for over six years.
He was convicted of 23 criminal actions in the Federal Court, but there was no res judicata in any of the cases.
Cabral is now an “influencer” on his Instagram, demonstrating a quiet life and good looks.
The former governor was the last person arrested in the Lava-Jato operation.
He is a defendant in 35 lawsuits and has already been convicted of 23 criminal actions in the Federal Court that add up to more than 400 years in jail.
