Brazil: Ambev creates an artificial intelligence tool that identifies alcohol consumption by voice

Drunkenness is one of the main factors leading to serious accidents on highways.

According to a survey by the Legal Medical Institute of São Paulo, about 40% of traffic fatalities register the presence of alcohol in the blood.

This scenario makes the prevention of accidents focus on the responsible consumption of alcoholic beverages.

Noting the need to raise awareness about the topic, Ambev launched Flow Voice.

This artificial intelligence tool identifies alcohol consumption by the user’s voice and intends to help consumers with guidance and tips.

The alcoholic beverage company’s application intends to promote greater safety on roads and public places by recommending that intoxicated drivers not drive.

In an interview with Jovem Pan News, Ambev’s Institutional Relations Director, Rodrigo Moccia, discussed the initiative.

“It is much more than an application. We are launching an artificial intelligence tool that can promote responsible consumption through voice.”

“You have from the simple use, like being connected to your cell phone and receiving messages, to alternate a drink with water and ordering something to eat.”

“We are very interested in talking to the car industry to insert artificial intelligence technology in cars and eventually prohibit starting and ignition if the person is not in a condition to drive.”

“In Brazil, you can’t drink and drive at all,” explained the Ambev director.

The World Health Organization has updated its strategy for reducing the consumption of alcoholic beverages and provokes the industry to seek formulas to encourage moderation within its product portfolio.

For Rochane Ponzi, vice-president of the Brazilian Traffic Lawyers Association, technology is welcome and should contribute to raising awareness.

“Drinking is not forbidden in Brazil. But it is forbidden to drink and drive.”

“So, to the extent that I give the citizens the ability to make a self-assessment that they are or are not under the influence of alcohol, and now I can take over driving a vehicle.”

“When I give this power to the citizens, I also build a society that is much more aware of the need not to mix the two things and not put their lives and the collectivity at risk.”

Data from 2022 show that more than 14,300 drivers were fined because they were driving under the influence of alcohol on Brazilian federal highways.

In addition, over 41,000 drivers refused to take the breathalyzer test.

According to Flávio Adura, the scientific director of the Brazilian Association of Traffic Medicine, the country cannot tolerate such high levels of drunkenness in traffic.

In his opinion, besides awareness, it is necessary to increase enforcement and strictness in complying with the laws.

“Alcohol is still one of the priorities. That is why we have to raise awareness, educate, make laws stricter, and enforce them.”

“This is the only way to reduce the suffering caused by drinking and driving.”
