Paraguayan Electoral Justice denies possibility of fraud in elections

The director of Electoral Processes of the Superior Tribunal of Electoral Justice (TSJE) of Paraguay, Carlos María Ljubetic, denied in a press conference the possibility of fraud in the general elections last Sunday, in which Santiago Peña was elected as president of the South American nation.

The official declared that the software used for the computer system of the voting machines was the “most reviewed, audited and audited in the world” and that not even international experts could adulterate it despite several tests and attempts to try to modify the electoral results.

He also clarified that the electronic ballot boxes used for voting cannot store information; therefore, the same cannot be altered or modified.

He reminded that several international auditors, from the European Union, the Organization of American States (OAS), the Inter-American Institute of Human Rights, and the Union of Electoral Organizations (Uniore), were in the country and were able to verify the inexistence of abnormalities.

He also mentioned that the proxies of all the political parties and movements could carry out the audit of the results on an individual basis and ensure that the results would not change.

Afterward, the TSJE announced that the judgment of electoral records would be transmitted live through the YouTube channel of the institution so that citizens could also follow the process.

However, from this institution, they clarified that in addition to complaints made by members of the National Crusade Party through the media and social networks of alleged electoral fraud, they had not received any formal complaints in their offices.

The social demonstrations of the adherents to the former presidential candidate Paraguayo Cubas were increasing late on Monday night and in the first hours of Tuesday, with roadblocks, destruction, riots, confrontations, vandalism, and even looting in several points of the country.

The National Police of Paraguay informed this Tuesday that they managed to clear all the routes for average circulation by land and that, so far, 74 people have been arrested for different acts throughout the country.
