Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva promised Monday that all those responsible for the events of Jan. 8 would go to prison during a Workers’ Day event on May 1 in São Paulo.
“All the people who tried to carry out the coup will be imprisoned because this country is a true democracy,” Lula emphasized in the event organized by eight trade unions, during which he announced some new government measures.
He encouraged those present to become “soldiers” against false news and warned of the problems caused by lies taking root in society.
“We cannot allow lies to continue to prevail in this country.”
“Every person with a cell phone must be alert, be smart.”
“You cannot send false messages knowing you can harm someone.”
“The lie never took anyone anywhere, and it was the truth that defeated the former president,” he emphasized.
