Cape Verdeans’ savings hit a record high with 10% growth by 2022

The savings deposits of Cape Verdeans in banks reached a record €82 million in 2022, a growth of 10% in one year, according to statistical data from the Bank of Cape Verde (BCV).

According to the Cape Verdean central bank’s track record, savings deposits in Cape Verdean banks were valued at €60.6 million at the end of 2019, before the economic effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, a figure that rose to over €67.5 million at the end of 2020 and to €75.2 million at the end of 2021, renewing consecutive highs.

Meanwhile, according to BCV, these savings deposits reached a new record last August of more than €81.1 million, renewed in November, when it reached €81.2 million, growing in the following month to over €82 million.

The term deposits in banks continue to fall, falling more than 4.5% since December 2021, to €387 million at the end of last year, reports Lusa.
