Brazil: more than 24 billion transactions via Pix occurred in 2022

More than 24 billion banking transactions via Pix occurred in 2022.

There were more than 66 million daily operations, according to a survey released this Wednesday (29) by the Brazilian Federation of Banks.

The study is based on data from the Central Bank (BC) and the Brazilian Association of Credit Card and Service Companies.

Last year, transactions via Pix totaled R$10.9 trillion (Photo)

The new tool for payments and immediate bank transfers has surpassed the movements with debit cards, payment orders, TED, DOC, and checks.

Together, these modalities registered almost 21 billion operations.

Last year, R$10.9 trillion (US$2.12 trillion) were transacted via Pix.

The result is inferior to the TED system’s, totaling R$40.7 trillion.

In third place were bank slips (R$5.3 trillion).

INTERNATIONAL PIX

The president of the Central Bank, Roberto Campos Neto, stated that there is a project to create an international Pix.

The initiative involves Uruguay, Colombia, Chile, and Ecuador.

The head of the autarchy made the statements earlier this year at an event of the Brazilian Institute of Education, Development and Research.

According to Campos Neto, the idea would be to set up a block of Latin American countries that can make instant transactions, following the Pix model.
